One of the many heritage buildings in North Shields. This old Lighthouse is the Old High Light, Trinity Buildings, Tyne Street, North Shields. Since 1536 Trinity House, Newcastle has built several leading lights in North Shields. This one was constructed in 1727. Following changes in the river channel it was replaced in 1807 by the new High Light which was part of the safe navigation into the River Tyne. Align the two lights, high and low from out at sea, steer a straight course and avoid the treacherous rocks of the 'Black Middens'.
