Grand Union Training Partnership

I took part in the Grand Union Training Partnership teacher training scheme in Northampton during the 2015-2016 academic year. The course is well structured and gives 'on the job' training where, as the trainee, I was in classrooms from the first week and teaching my own lessons within 6 weeks. This was excellent experience and when coupled with an emphasis on reflection and mentor discussion it gave me the chance to improve on areas of weakness and progress further in areas of strength. The 'train to teach' approach of the course couples trainee's with full time teachers who act as a mentor and guide the trainee through the course. In the course of the year I had two mentors, one at each of the placements I completed and they used their knowledge, skills and experience to help me grow in confidence and ability. I would highly recommend this course to anyone considering teacher training in Northamptonshire. I interviewed for two teacher training positions in January of 2015 and it was clear that the GUTP was a far more organised and superior set up. They had a clear, supportive structure that prepared me for my NQT year.
