I purchased my BMW from Garland Motors in November 22. I live around 2 and a half hours away, so it was a long way to come, but they had a car in the spec I wanted. Although I had to visit twice as I couldnt take the car the same day, I didnt mind and was told this in advance, so there was no issues there. Im very happy with the car and it was well worth travelling that bit further to get it. All the cars there looked good and of a high standard. Shaun was knowledgeable and patient and I didnt feel pressured into a sale despite travelling. Overall I would highly recommend and would buy from them again.

We are really disappointed and frustrated with the customer service at this garage. We live about 2 hours away so my husband had arranged to drive up this evening after closing time to test drive and purchase a car here. The dealer during the call had explained how he had a lot of no shows and we reassured him we were definitely coming. Less than 2 hours before leaving we received a call to say the dealer had accepted a deposit so therefore we could no longer buy the car we wanted. This is completely double standards after he had told us how frustrating it is for him to have no shows to then do it in reverse to us. We would have been happy to have paid a deposit but werent offered this as an option but were under the impression he would reserve the car for us.

I feel I need to leave this review as a warning. In summary, HPI check your chosen car before buying from here. Dont take their word for it! I found what I thought was my ideal car here. Shaun was polite and seemingly professional. I drove the car in question, which seemed ideal. It apparently had a full service history and was a lowish mileage 2018 car at 47k. So far, so good. It was the only one of these, rare, versions of the particular car within a 100-mile radius of home, so it was extra tempting to buy it. It was also the right colour for me in black. I decided to buy it, so I paid the deposit and got very excited. It was such a great car... or so I thought. I had faith. They seemed nice, they have lots of 5 star Google reviews and the website states that all cars are HPI checked. So the cars must actually be HPI checked right?? Apparently not. I erred on the side of caution and paid online for a HPI check. The result was horrifyingly heart stopping and heart breaking. There was a mileage discrepancy. To corroborate this, I even bought another HPI check from a different website. The result was the same. All of a sudden my 47k mile car I thought I was buying, unbelievably, was recorded, most recently, by VOSA in November 2022 as doing 119,733 miles! And it wasn't the only mileage discrepancy recorded. There was another on the National Mileage Register where it magically dropped 10k miles in a year. So two mileage discrepancies. I have never seen this on any car I have bought before (I always HPI check used cars before buying). Maybe it was a clerical input error, maybe not. I had to work on the basis it wasn't. So I needed to communicate with Shaun that I had to pull out of the sale. A difficult phone call. So I decided to email, politely, this information, supported by screen shots of the HPI check and requested that my deposit is returned, as the car is not as advertised. That way, he had advance notice of what was going to take place when I called later so he had time to get his head around it and prepare himself. After a few hours I received a reply stating he was happy to pay my deposit back. Ok, that's good, I thought he was being good about this... until the later phone call. He called me and I answered. I was taken aback: polite and professional Shaun had vanished and been replaced with angry, emotionally unbalanced, aggressive Shaun. He accused me of questioning his integrity, he wouldn't let me talk. When I could get my words out I explained that I was simply stating the facts that the HPI check displayed on the vehicle and that I had no choice but to pull out. I had to placate him like a child. He was acting like he was the victim, rather than me. As if it was all my fault for daring to do my due diligence and check the car on HPI myself. He told me that HPI must have made an error recording incorrect information and he could "assure" me it was wrong. Well, if they HPI check all their cars, surely he would have known about the mileage discrepancy? Surely he should have mentioned it, or not tried to sell the car as a 47k mile car? Or addressed any clerical errors at HPI before selling it? You really would have thought so. Unless they assume people don't do HPI checks themselves? A vulnerable person may have been convinced by him and felt pressured by his aggressive manner into continuing the purchase. I am a former police officer, I've dealt with all sorts of unsavoury people across my life and I'm a VERY confident individual, the opposite to vulnerable. There was no way this was going to intimidate me. I was simply walking away from the car. I do hope it was a clerical error at VOSA. Irrespective, I feel the wool was attempted to be pulled over my eyes into a 20k mistake. Draw your own conclusions, but ALWAYS HPI check any car you are thinking of buying. Never take a garage's word for it. He did email again to say he had put the refund through and sent a photo of the refund receipt as evidence. This car is still for sale there at time of writing.

Garland Motors bought my car which I had advertised on AutoTrader and I was very impressed with them. The price agreed on the phone was paid without any quibble, they sorted out the DVLA documents while I was there, then gave me a lift home. Id be quite happy to recommend them.
