I recommend that you do not have therapy from Mark. He is not a core processes psychotherapist as he describes on his website and other places where he is listed. Maura Sills, Director of the Karuna Institute verified that he qualified as a Core Processes Psychotherapist but can no longer be regarded as such due to not maintaining his accreditation by belonging to the ACPP and BACP and membership of both is required. I would invite you to check his current status with the ACPP (Association of Core Processes Psychotherapist). Maura Sills made it clear that to remain accredited as a Core Processes Psychotherapist it is necessary to be registered with the ACPP and the UKCP to maintain accreditation. ACCP and UKCP have informed me he is not a member. as I found when I tried to log a complaint. In addition, on his website, he claimed to follow the ethics of the UKCP and claimed to be non judgmental and that would imply that he is a current member. He was not non-judgmental. He IS a psychotherapist as anyone can call themselves that but he is NOT a Core Processes one due to not continuing to be accredited. The description is misleading. He does NOT follow the ethics of the UKCP as claimed on his website, I was judged, he is far from non-judgmental which is one of their key guidelines. There were several exchanges that I was very concerned about and they increased over time. Finally, I found him to be domineering, judgmental after a while, condescending, dishonest, manipulative, mysogynist, inappropriate and unprofessional. He even defended domestic violence and emotional abuse. I feel that he took advantage of vulnerabilities that I explicitly told him I had. He came to odd conclusions without allowing me to discuss what happened or my feelings. Most of the above was not apparent immediately.

I don't normally write reviews, that said, given the sensitive nature of counselling work (and as a former psychotherapist myself), I feel it's important to share my experience for other people to be aware. I spoke to Mark after reading he's trained by the Karuna Institute as I've been interested in Core Process work, being involved with Eastern spirituality and Buddhism for 21 years. During our initial phone call, he proved to be judgemental, extremely condescending and generally unprofessional. I was privy to a 15 minute (unsolicited) lecture unrelated to counselling or to my original reason for contacting him. I did not feel listened to, rather I felt talked at. From a professional perspective, his repeated suggestions were unethical; the conclusions he arrived at, without having spoken to me for any length of time, were completely inappropriate. He also clearly doesn't have up to date knowledge on modern, research based parenting practices such as attachment parenting and judged my partner and I as parents without ever having met us or asking any in depth questions to arrive at his erroneous conclusions. In my work in the personal development and therapeutic field, I've met many people who enter into this work with questionable intentions -- often it's desire to be an authority figure, or other reasons equally not of integrity -- and this was honestly the impression I came away with. Feeling uncomfortable after the call, I described the lecture to a trusted confidante who said 'either he's in it for the power of authority or he has hatred for women, I'm not sure which.' I would not trust him in such a vulnerable and sacred forum such as the therapeutic relationship, and would advise others to proceed with caution. That being said, always trust your own inner guidance when approaching a counsellor or someone in a similar position.
