Alzheimer's disease and so we begun to look around at care homes, so that when the time came, we'd have a good idea of what's around. He then had a fall and unfortunately came out of hospital very vulnerable and needed short term respite care. The Fernes were fabulous, from the time he arrived until leaving, some 5 weeks later. The staff always have a smile to give and treat the residents with care and respect. The food is wonderful and there are activities and entertainment daily, but there is no pressure to join in. As a family member you can come and go as you please and it's somewhere you look forward to visiting as you're always made to feel welcome, very often with a drink and cookie. The gardens are well kept, its peaceful and with views of the countryside. The whole place is beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. In fact it's like a home / hotel / care facility all rolled into one. My father went in feeling apprehensive and confused and left to go home feeling emotional to be leaving. I hope he'll be able to manage a while longer in his own home with some additional help, but when the times comes that he can't, we'll be straight on the phone to The Fernes and asking if he can move there, upon which we know he'll be looked after and very happy. Thank you to everybody at The Fernes, you are all amazing. I hope my review helps anyone looking to make a decision about their own care or that of a loved one.
