Just completed my silver NNAS award through silva navigation school and I could not recommend them enough to anybody who enjoys the outdoors and wants to learn how to be more self sufficient in the hills. Frag was a brilliant instructor, extremely passionate, professional and informative. Frag is very approachable and is more than happy to share his knowledge of the mountains, kit & equipment and general mountaineering skills with you. The course itself was very comprehensive and has given me a lot of confidence for navigating in the future.

Im a navigation instructor and Ive read a lot of navigation books over the years and Petes Cicerone published Navigation book is absolutely fantastic. He uses such brilliant examples and clearly knows his stuff. By far the best and most accessibly written mountain navigation book out there. A must buy for any mountain walker.

I completed the one day navigation course with Pete and found it very rewarding. He is clearly very knowledgeable in this area and explains what you need to do in a way I found easy to understand. There was plenty of time to then practice what we had been shown. The course was also very enjoyable as well as useful - I'd recommend the school to anyone looking for navigation courses.

Having just passed my Mountain Leader qualification I've decided to post this message about Pete's courses. Having done all 3 courses with Pete and a contour course i found that it gave me a great base to all aspects of navigation. I felt confident with my navigation going into the mountain leader training and wouldn't have been able to this without Pete's help and guidance. I would recommend the courses for anyone who is interested in gaining recognised navigation skills or who like me decides to move on to the mountain leader training qualification.

BE WARNED IF YOU'RE A NOVICE WALKER...... I've just come back from having done the bronze (beginners) course with Pete over the weekend. By 3pm (finishes approx 4pm) on the Sunday, feeling both mentally and physically exhausted, plus a very sore knee from all the rough walking and steep inclines, I couldn't wait to get away. We did over 10 miles on the Saturday and over 9 on the Sunday, coupled with the mental concentration of learning something new, the map reading, Fridays and Saturdays evening talks, I found this a very tiring course. Not something I anticipated, which having looked closely at Pete's website, I think is possibly an error on my part. The details for the suitability for this course are under the FAQ page under the accessibility statement which is given a brief mention under the course equipment page of the bronze course. Maybe it was missed by me having used the mobile site on my phone, lesson definitely learned. Having said all that Pete is an expert teacher and I've definitely come away, having learnt some invaluable navigational skills. Unfortunately I won't be returning for the Silver, sorry Pete. p.s. as a benchmark for other walkers reading this review........I'm a relatively fit, if not a tad overweight 45 year old.
