        There's a descriptive plaque in Islip giving quite an interesting history of Nine Arches Bridge. I forget details, but the number of Arches has changed over the centuries, varying from 5 or 6 to more than nine but now settled as it's name suggests at nine. It is single track with traffic lights controlling the flow. Along the length there are safe haven indents for foot travellers to stay clear of vehicles.
