We stayed here in October half term after travelling 8 hours to arrive with 2 young children. We called ahead at 6pm to inform the host of our late arrival and at 9pm, due to traffic. This was not met kindly and seemed as though we'd put the hosts out so we requested they leave the key with our friends in the lodge next door. Our friends also said the hosts had already complained that we'd make noise before we'd even arrived. Despite me booking the lodges together 6 weeks before, it became apparent we were not welcome before we had even arrived. The following morning we were met with hostility due to our friends dog and we were told we all had to leave. Our friends found alternative arrangements for their dog and offered compensation however, we were still told we had to leave. After driving 8 hours the night before, we were not best pleased, especially when we hadn't done anything wrong. It soon became clear the underlying issues was that we were a 'group' and were stigmatised for it. Collectively, we were 4 adults and 4 children, the eldest being 6 years old so not exactly party goers. If you are going with friends, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. The lodges are as they look, outdated, tidy, but not particularly clean. It is not cheap accommodation and despite the beautiful setting, everything is tired and the boiler buzzes every minute. We made the best of the area and got out as much as we could but would probably opt for other accommodation in the future.

We booked two lodges together with another young family to enjoy a few days in the woods with our children. While the lodges were lovely, the hosts made us feel very uncomfortable and made it clear from the start that we weren't welcome. They let their pre-conceptions of how party's behave get in the way of being good hosts. I would not recommend staying in these lodges if you have a young family, dogs, or for meeting friends. It's a great shame none of this was clearly communicated to us while we made our booking, or before we arrived. A note on Dogs - it does say in the terms and conditions that dogs are not allowed, but it was not made obvious on the website or booking confirmation that this was their policy. We had to find emergency accommodation for our dog once we'd arrived, with no help, suggestions or solutions offered by the hosts.

Great little find. A lodge actually in a forest. So peaceful but well equipped. The log burner was a godsend for the cool September evenings but there's central heating if you need it. We chose to walk in the forest. It's so vast there's plenty room for all to share the trails. A beautiful location.
