Had an Easter lunch here in the afternoon with my significant other half. Started with a sumptuous Bloody Mary (though no celery and glass was erring on the smaller side for a 10 price tag) and some very tasty sourdough with butter that was the perfect consistency for spreading. Oysters were also a tasty starter though they were meant to come with a green sriracha that did not show up unfortunately. We then proceeded to have the beef wellington and smoked chicken roasts. The sides were exquisite as was the cauliflower cheese. The smoked chicken was perfectly cooked and had a significant smokiness to it but unfortunately that was it. Some Herbes de Provence, lemon or garlic would have been very welcome as the overbearing smoky flavour left any other remnant of acidity or seasoning running for the hills. The beef wellington however was very good, though it was disconcerting seeing this pre made massive beef wellington left out on the side by the entrance all afternoon immediately next to diners coming and going with no glass/plastic protection (for good hygiene). Two Americans sat next to us and came and left within 45 mins without eating their Yorkshire puddings (I was gobsmacked as this is my favourite accompaniment to a classic Sunday roast but each to their own). We sipped a bottle of 2021 Sancerre that was excellent and the wine list looked to hold its own at first glance. No dessert as we were stuffed though we did have to ask for the bill twice. Overall the atmosphere was very good (good lighting, good acoustics, friendly staff) and we would come back again. However I think that for 24-35 per main plus an expensive wine list (plus 12.5% service change) Coal Rooms could iron out a few kinks to make it truly memorable, better value for money and one of Peckham's top fine dining establishments.

Had dinner here at the weekend and what an experience. The food was delicious and the staff were wonderful! We were quite a loud, busy table but they were really personable and patient. They went above and beyond. Highly recommend the Blue Shell Mussels, absolutely mouthwatering. Best food/night out I have had in a long time.
