The accommodation itself is very nice and homely and generally well equipped, and there is a dedicated parking space, although it is a bit of a trek to get there from the flat. We were lucky and got a place outside to unload first before moving the car. Being hardwood floors, it would benefit from a decent tall brush set to sweep over, rather than the cheap and nasty dustpan and brush provided, which made it difficult to pick anything up. Cleaning wasn't 5 star, with dirt and dust on the cooker hood and tea-splashes on the wall by the bins. The biggest problem by far is the flat upstairs, the Admirals Suite. Good luck if you have anyone staying in it at the same time as you. We were unfortunate enough to have an inconsiderate group upstairs who woke us at half past midnight and didn't quieten down until after 2am, despite my banging on the walls. The reason for the furniture being dragged around in the middle of the night became clear early the following morning when 3 young women left at 7:20am. I then had to go to work on 4.1/2 hours sleep. We reported this to the owners after we left, who were unaware of these circumstances. In light of the spoiled night's sleep (which wasn't the owners fault, but it wasn't ours either!) I suggested we split the difference and give a 50% refund, but she was unwilling to consider any compensation at all for the ruined experience. As far as she was concerned, we'd stayed there so we paid the money. Clearly more interested in 5 star cash than a 5 star experience for their customers. They had kindly allowed us to stay just the one night and bring our pet bird, so we could celebrate the Queen's birthday with our friends at the Shaldon street party, but we wish now they'd said no and we'd driven home. We'd have saved a hundred and fifty quid and got a decent night's sleep. We wouldn't stay there again.
