Truly awful!!!! Grubby surroundings, terrible terrible food, poor service, awful atmosphere (we ate in). We went for nostalgia sake, back in the day it was amazing, really good food, and a great service experience. Night and day from last night. Firstly, everything was stickySticky carpets, sticky hand rails up the stairs, sticky table mats, sticky menus. Not the best start. The carpet was stained and worn, chairs had Ill filling cheap covers, there was even a plant dying in a corner. There was us, and one other brave table. There was just one poor girl working, covering the restaurant and the counter for the takeaway downstairs - she was run off her feet. The food.Ill start with a positive, hubbies duck spring rolls were nice, hot and crispy. I had jaiozi, I love them! I buy decent frozen ones from the Chinese supermarket often, these however were terrible. The skins were thick, and as they werent properly cooked (the filling was watery and cool) they were reminiscent of half cooked vegan sausage rolls with thick uncooked shortcrust pastry. Add to that the portion (thankfully) was tiny (4) which even at man on the street Chinese supermarket prices wouldve cost in total about 80p. Hubby agreed that it was probably the worst dish Id ever had. I ate because I was starving and it was very expensive. Next course and it didnt improve. Firstly the service, my sizzling dish arrived first. It took a full 5 minutes then before the plates arrived, followed by the rice and hubbies dish 2-3 minutes later, by then there was a distinct lack of sizzle. Hubby had Szechuan beef, edible but basically a mix of sweet and sour sauce and sweet chilli sauce. I had sizzling lamb with ginger and spring onion; the lamb meat was lovely, the sauce though was sweet, overly salty, and in the half of the plate I ate didnt have a single hint of ginger. We both had special fried rice, it was over cooked, cold, had no prawns in and was odd tasting (like smoked meat). The waitress checked in on us part was through, hubby will never let me say if things arent good but I had too, I explained that my lamb had no ginger and our rice was cold and over cooked. She apologised and said shed tell the chef. Nothing came back, not that Id wanted any more but an offer to remake the rice at least wouldve at least gone some way to helping. We paid our near 70 bill (including a coke snd 2 beers) and left. It was so bad that we invented a new game in the car on the way home called Id rather of eaten.. this included a tyre plutonium and one of Terry Wigans toupees
