We were with Salon Iris for 3 years - our second salon software. Though it was far from perfect, we accepted the shortfalls as the staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.
We accepted the shortfalls to the extent that we upgraded to the multi-site version in February this year (which obliges us into a new one year contract, even though we were out of contract for years). This was a mistake.
The multi-site version really highlighted the clunkiness and outdated nature of the software. For example, gift cards can't be used across all sites without a clunky 'fix', as they're not stored on a central location. Another example is you can't make an appointment on another site unless that site's computer is switched on, because appointments are not stored on a cloud.
We made suggestions for improvements but none were implemented. Another example of the finnacky nature of the software is their use of Windows 98 style dropdown menus for when you want to check a client out. The drop down is used to choose whether the client is paying with cash or card. This made accounting a pain when there were mistakes made (bound to happen in very busy salons like ours). Our new software has large buttons you can see clearly, which you can either click on or tap using the touch screen.
We were promised a salon app to accompany the upgrade but what was offered instead was a salon iris website, a shortcut of which could be saved onto the phones of our clients. Not like the actual app we have now that can be downloaded via the Apple Store or Google Play.
Our upgrade really showed how primitive the system was. We decided to downgrade about 20 days after upgrading.
