My brother has lived at Thorndene since 1992 and has been so happy there. It is a wonderful place, with staff who really do care about what they do. He is always busy and involved with local activities and life at his home. I can't recommend it enough.

My experience of the interview process was very poor. I gave it two stars based on the fact I received a response. Whilst I appreciate their CQC status, which is good, I do not feel that they make reasonable adjustments for individuals with a disability who attend interview, certainly in my case (I cannot comment on others). I was invited to interview, I couldn't attend due to my disability, having received treatment the day before; I was in pain. I notified them on the day, and asked for a new date. I was subsequently told after careful consideration, my application had been unsuccessful. Why? No reason, other than to be told I didn't alert them (which I clearly did). Whilst they state they are fully cooperative of Equility & Diversity, here in my example it they were short of that. The Equality Act 2010 had been failed over on at least 3 sections (6, 15 & 19). I was very disappointed in this company, particularly when they look after individuals with disabilities.

As a registered disabled person, I cannot comment highly enough on the quality and level of support provided by Thorndene. I was registered as disabled prior to seeking employment with Thorndene and as a company, the interview process and subsequent induction was of a very high quality that took into consideration my own personal needs. I have now been employed by Thorndene for seven years and during this time, they have continued to be exceedingly supportive, recognising when I have needed additional support and making reasonable adjustments as required swiftly. This combined with the outstanding opportunities for professional development has not only allowed me to continue to work but also allowed me to be part of a team that provides an amazing service for the residents. As a result of the support and understanding that the company has shown, I would highly recommend them for anyone seeking to pursue a career in care. Posted by Lucie Deane
