The Durlston Astronomy Centre

Having just been to the Swanage event I was so disappointed that I was forced to complain, but this fell on deaf ears! They were not prepared for the numbers that turned up. No Covid group numbers were adhered to . No information was imparted on the agenda for the evening (being planet & star viewing through telescopes - one of which arrived late plus a presentation lecture). We were ushered through in the second party to the telescope viewing area - supposed to be in a group of twenty only - no, around forty five! It was cloudy so viewing was not going to happen and when we were told about the lecture presentation the gentleman giving it had already completed it three times and wasn't going to do it again! So we had no option but to give up on the event which was when I complained to one of the organisers. His attitude was well if it is cloudy that is outside of their control but had no answer for the lecture! So basically TOUGH! No refund was offered. My advice - don't bother and save your money. PS When I went onto the Wessex Astronomy Society web page when we got back this is what was posted:- ' It is regretted that the planned Durlston event for 26th August will not now proceed because of the foreseen difficulty in implementing adequate Covid precautions around telescopes with large numbers of visitors. We are hopeful that later planned events may be able to proceed.' REALLY!
