When working for Physical Education & Active Kids there is never a dull moment! I work with children from Nursery age up until year 6, delivering their PE sessions. It is a rewarding role as I get to watch students gain skills and confidence through various sports and topics. It is great to open their eyes to literacy, history, geography etc., through dance and other sports through PEAKs curriculum support, and showing them how they can apply their own ideas into sessions and it leads to exciting and creative outcomes. However the real buzz is when children get a real sense of achievement from learning a new skill, overcoming a challenge or reaching a goal and thats what makes it all worthwhile. I get a real sense of fulfilment working as a member of the PEAK team & feel it is the perfect accumulation of all my skills and experience! As I was a teacher in my previous career, I am able to see all the benefits engaging in physical activity brings to children such as confidence, determination as well as a better knowledge of a healthy lifestyle! I love how PE can be made accessible and inclusive to all children, and seeing even the quietest of children come out of their shell in sessions to work towards, demonstrate and perfect their newfound skills. I have only been part of the PEAK team for a short space of time but from the beginning I have been impressed by the high standards of PE delivery across the company. As an ex-primary school teacher am aware of the fundamentals of an outstanding lesson and scheme of work, and through the support and feedback from the team this is demonstrated throughout the company. PEAK are not just a coaching company and during my initial training it was clear that all staff I shadowed had built strong lasting relationships with their schools and their staff, really becoming part of their team e.g. helping out at break times, offering extra help for performances and school events, providing after school clubs and really engulfing themselves in each school community. The education, coaching and support provided by the PECS programme by Aspire Sports is also an invaluable tool, and although in my experience school staff can feel apprehensive and a little out of depth initially, with the constant help and guidance from PEAK they have increased confidence in PE delivery, assessment and knowledge.
