Sunderland Literacy Aid CIC

I've joined the team as a placement student in 2019. In a relatively short space of time I've developed sound knowledge on multi-sensory reminiscence activities, which now plays an important role in my dissertation. It's also opened doors to employment opportunities impossible to get without this placement. I feel more confident now that I have developed my communication skills and understanding of the challenges in engaging with residents of care homes, and I wholeheartedly recommend this organisation to students interested in a placement that will give them the chance to apply their study skills to real-life work situations.

I help the team at Sunderland Literacy Aid to provide shared reading and reminiscence activities/workshops to people in Sunderland based care homes. As a psychology graduate, I can recognise the mental health benefits for those who attend our weekly sessions. This is definitely a worthy cause and I would encourage people to consider getting involved in any way they can.
