My father in law passed away just after midnight, his partner was told there would be a fee if they came and got him that night and it would be best to wait until morning. This is the middle of summer in the midst of heatwaves, he was already deteriorating quickly so there was no possible way he could stay until morning. The afternoon, Mr Ranson came to the house to discuss funeral arrangements. His attitude left a lot to be desired. In a room full of grieving people he was aloof, condescending, brash and didn't seem very sympathetic. My husband asked to be a pall bearer, it was written down. The day of the funeral, the 4 men supplied carried the coffin. My husband was forgotten about and now he feels like he's let his dad down. It's unacceptable, it was written down that my husband would be pall bearer, my husband didn't even realise until they were walking into the Crematorium. Two things my husband wanted to do. See his dad in the Chapel of rest, which they explained why he couldn't and while it hurt, he understood and doesn't blame them in any way for that and be a pall bearer. Which was agreed on and written down. Everyone else my husband spoke to was very nice and other than the issues stated above they were extremely helpful. We live in Scotland and had to return home 2 days after the funeral and originally the ashes wouldn't be ready until the following week. They went out of their way to pick them up on the night of the funeral so he could get them on Saturday which was above and beyond and couldn't praise them more for that. So while the majority were nice and they were so very helpful regarding the ashes I think I would avoid using them again for the reasons I stated. Especially the fact my husband got forgotten about regarding being pall bearer. Something he'll never get to do for his dad ever again. Something he'll forever regret and feel like a failure over.
