We used Ian o'Hanlon and he was very helpful in reorganising our ideas into a feasable project. The swiftness of his drawings and getting it all passed was really appreciated. We will gladly recommend him in the future.

We have used Ian O'Hanlon at Tricker Blackie Associates twice, once for a rear single storey extension in 2016 (design, drawings, planning and tender process) and the other for a 2 floor front extension in 2019 (drawings, planning and tender process). In both cases we found the service exactly what we needed, with an attention to detail that we really appreciated. We were recommended Tricker Blackie by a friend, and we have recommended Tricker Blackie multiple times over the years. I would most certainly not hesitate to employ Ian on future projects.

I recently employed Tricker Blackie to design and supervise the building of an extension and second garage in Bury St. Edmunds. The architect, Ian O'Hanlon, was very diligent and flexible in adjusting plans to changing circumstances. Also, he kept a close eye on the finances and ensured work was fully completed at each stage prior to releasing part-payments. Overall I was very happy with their performance and and would recommend them to anyone.

My Experience with Ian O'Halon at Tricker Blackie was particularly poor. I've worked with a number of architects prior to Ian and never before have I come across someone so unwilling listen to a customers needs or views. I went to Ian with a full set of scaled and dimensioned drawings I wanted digitalised to then submit to planning. Nearly two months later Ian invited me to the office to view the drawings. I was quite shocked to find he'd decided to come up with two completely different designs (2 months and just over 3000 later) and AT THIS POINT decided that the original design was 'not something he wanted to be associated with'. Alternatively Ian had decided that the only plan he wished to put through was a flat roofed building, built with blue engineering bricks and colour dyed render (very much like a primary school built in the late 90s). At this point (3000 in and with the promis we could change materials after planning had gone through) we progressed design Forwards to planning. Unsurprisingly turned down for 'The flat roof design and failing to meet the materials advice for the conservation area'. At this point I thought it best to cut my losses and move on to a new architect. I had asked Ian for the original survey drawing (something Ian had charged me 700 for prior to any design). As we were not looking to develop any further designs with Ian (unsurprisingly), he refused to send the drawings to me unless I paid a further 250+vat to convert them to a DWG file, (having an engineering background this is as simple as selecting a format when saving.) Having spoken to the RIBA this is something I am well within my rights to receive. All in all, very poor attitude, service and work. I'm happy to say my new architect has produced the new drawings for me in 2 weeks at less than half the outlay. Needless to say I would never use again.

Ian O'Hanlon at Tricker Blackie was recommended to me by a builder; now that has got to be good. So I used him for the drawings and planning consent on a two storey extetion to a Victorian house. The work was done in a timely manner I was prompted to do the tasks that I needed to do and was given some valuable comments on my initial design. I will be using them again.
