I called around 4pm to ask if there was availability for around 7:30pm to have someone do a diagnostic check on a car we wanted to buy. They said he can do a diagnostic check and overall car health check. We arrived roughly at the same time. He arrived in a taxi which we drove a few car lengths past but he lied and said the person I spoke to over the phone dropped him off but left for another job. The car we wanted to do the checks on was a little further up the road than the postcode took us so we offered him a lift. Thankfully he declined so he could finish smoking a cigarette. Even having the window open for a second it absolutely stunk. He wasnt very professional or polite. He arrived at the car and started speaking in a different language to the owners of the car. I asked them if they could speak in English but they continued. He did the checks from a mobile device which wasnt explained to me and then said that there was no faults with the car. I had to ask him to actually show me the results but didnt explain what any of it meant. He said he would do some other checks of the car. He opened the bonnet, asked for the car to be revved and then pressed down on the engine a little. I saw him touch 1 wheel only to check for tread and made a call to check the car didnt have any outstanding finance. He said he would WhatsApp me the diagnostics results but he has not. When he said he had finished, I asked him how much we owed him and he answered well how much do you want to pay me? He then said he did the diagnostics which is 75 and then further checks of the car which was 30.. and that he wanted us to pay him 100.. I told him that the person over the phone said they would do those things for 75 and then he reluctantly agreed. I found it a bit strange that he said he didnt have a card so we could get the details to transfer the money, but he gave us details to an account from his phone. Overall I felt uncomfortable around the guy and he wasnt professional. I could be wrong but I assume this is a family business where cousins work together. Better then not having any checks done on the car but the company should look at who the employ. Service: Auto engine diagnostic
