restoration.
Martyn and Sonya made an initial visit to view our house and discuss the
job. An acid wash was recommended to be sympathetic to the limestone. We required pointing of approx. 50% of the house. Martyn recommended the use of the strongest lime NHL5 for the mortar mix, due to the exposed location and offered a choice on sand colour. We selected red to result in a pink/red finish to match the limestone, there was no need for tinting, which is a service offered if required.
Martyn was able to put us in touch with a scaffolding business. This was
really useful, saved us time and Martyn provided a further visit with the
Scaffolder to agree what was required and where the platforms needed to be. The scaffolding was well constructed. I used the scaffolding myself for work that I wanted to complete and found it very safe. Whilst this is not a scaffolding review, if you do progress a project with Stone Surgeons, I can recommend the Scaffolding Team that Martyn frequently works with.
Really important, Martyn kept in touch and delivered whole weeks of work
when he said he would. When you have a sizeable project on your hands, you need a building company that delivers back to back days until the job is done. You can be assured your project will be given dedicated diary space.
The work was completed methodically. The clean first, which has restored much of the stonework to its original pink state. The pointing was for walls that had not previously been maintained or incorrectly pointed with cement mortar. The lime mortar has provided a strong seal between the stonework and uniform look, which together with the acid clean has made a 250+ year old ex-farmhouse look like a new build.
Martyn and Sonya also repaired some feature stones for us, a badly crumbling ornate coping stone, a window sill and some chimney stone facings that had sheared off. The stone restoration work has surpassed expectation, simply excellent.
Martyn and Sonya's experience and passion for restoring stone builds is
evident. We are extremely happy with the work delivered, care taken with our property and experience of working with the Stone Surgeons Team.
A big thank you.
