Set in a valley The Croft is well placed for local walks, as The Jubilee Trail passes across the drive. The spacious property is finished to a very high standard and is well equipped with everything you might need. Much appreciated was the welcome pack of local produce awaiting us.
A short walk across an adjacent field finds you on the edge of Stoke Abbott, with The New Inn in the village being a welcome destination for a great evening meal. It's been recently updated and is open Wednesday to Sunday.
Also within walking distance are Broadwindsor and the challenges of Pilsdon Pen and Lewesdon Hill beyond, with great views from each.
Close by, the small town of Beaminster, walking via Netherbury, is worth a visit; return by Gerrard's Hill to Stoke Abbott.
It's just a short drive to Symondsbury where you can take a circular walk to Golden Cap, via Colmer's Hill and Hell Lane. Likewise, Lyme Regis isn't far to discover another part of the coast and maybe some fossils on the beach.
Most memorably, at this time of year there was an abundance of wild garlic growing in the woods, footpaths and roadside banks around Stoke Abbott. Lots of pheasants too.
Gareth and Suzanne are great hosts and we'd love to return to The Croft.

Everything you could want is provided for.
Very comfortable and cosy yet plenty of room, a lovely secluded roof terrace affords views in almost all directions which is great to observe and listen to the abundant nature around and about.
There is a very well made guest car parking space complete with solar powered marking lights to help you park in the dark.
Guests have access to a picnic style table and chairs and apples (season dependant) the owners are very helpful and friendly.
You are well placed to visit interesting and beautiful locations including Lyme Regis, Beer in Devon, Beaminster (do catch the church chimes) Bridport is just 5 miles away and has many nice shops including a Morrisons just out of town.
All in all a brilliant peaceful location and a great holiday stay.
