My grandad, who has dementia, stayed here a few weeks ago for some restbite and if it wasn't for the fact that he actually seemed to enjoy the service he was recieving, looked well groomed and the staff seeming lovelynon face value I would be giving this a lower star rating. Unfortunately the organisation through visiting requirements was very unclear amongst staff and visitors and Information was not clear on visiting instructions right from the beginning. Before my Grandad even came here for restbite the family were told one set of instructions on visitations... only 2 people to visit at a time and that we must bring a lateral flow test with us to prove we had tested ourselves upon entry.... to then be greeted which a whole new set of rules and expectations upon each daily visit to the home. Turns out we were only allowed 30 minutes of visitation per day and the rules on providing lateral flow tests changed each time. This was very frustrating for our family and it felt very unsettling that there was no clear communication between Staff on this matter. Although each individual staff member was polite and helpful, upon each visit the staff seemed bewildered when our family told them of the rules they had been told to follow, just the day before. The day I visited, we were made to wait jn the car parkas my grandad had just sat down to eat and we weren't allowed to come in until he had finished. After 30 minutes we decided to try again and even the member of staff welcoming us at the door said "welcome to the mad House" and admitted that she had no clue as to why we had been told a different set of rules and had to call for someone more senior to help her with our admission to visit as the lady was all prepped to give us lateral flow tests upon entry which would have meant waiting a further 30 minutes for results, before being able to see my grandad. The man who came to help also had no idea why the family had been told something different to what they had been told and couldn't work out why these rules weren't been followed. Again, if it hadn't been for the fact that when I eventually got to see my grandad, he was okay and happy and looked after, I would be giving Welburn House a lower rating because of the lack of communication and organisation. In general the premises looked clean and safe, and my grandads room was small but immaculate, comfortable and clean as far as I could see looking through the window from the garden. The carers who were with my grandad that day were so lovely and were brilliant with him and my Grandad gave big compliments to the chef. (He loves his food). So a massive thank you to the hard work everyone puts in here. However to, which ever company or hierarchy who controls the running of this establishment... I would advise that you make it easier on your hard working staff by giving clear guidance and communication on rules, regulations, admissions, visitations, covid regulations and general expectations. This will make their job alot easier and also provide families with more reassurance with the care of a family member.
