I'm new to Wing Chun, this is a friendly group, all genders and abilities welcome. Plenty of partner work with other students at different levels. I'm a Tai Chi instructor and recognise there's some high level teachers and students here. I highly recommend this place if you want to learn a martial art and self defence.

I'm not ashamed to say I was inspired by Donnie Yen and Bruce Lee to take up Wing Chun back in February. Having never done any martial arts before and with my more athletic days behind me I was initially apprehensive about joining a club. I was happy to find that I was warmly welcomed by Ged and all his students. Everyone was happy to spend lots of time with me and over the past 6 months I have developed both my wing chun and also my confidence in all walks of life. A times it can be frustrating and difficult to practice wing chun as it can go against the grain of what is natural to you, but Ged always has a knack of knowing whats best for each individual, and he spends hours each day learning and developing new ways to improve and teach. Every lesson is interesting and intense yet with a relaxed atmosphere. There are no shouting Kiai's, Hiiiya's or shoryukens, no money making belts or grading's, and no fitness drills, no bowing and Sifu nonsense. Everyone helps each other and students that have been going for a while are nothing but helpful. You get your full 2 hours (normally even longer) of nothing but training the art. I've come to discover that Ged is one of the best business and is world renowned. But you wouldn't know it as he is the most humble and genuine person you will meet and it rubs off on everyone else at the club. One of the best decisions I've ever made was joining this fantastic club.

We are a satellite group based in Wirral and train in ABMVT under the tutelage of Ged Kennerk. We live about 40 miles away from the club and so arent able to get there as often as we would like. However, this doesnt stop us progressing as Ged has come here to do sessions with us and provides us with videos and emails to aid us in our training. Ged is an excellent tutor, hes extremely knowledgeable about every area of Wing Chun and is a very good motivator. It is a privilege to train with him and everyone else at the club. If you are thinking of starting Wing Chun, and even if you live out of the area, come along to one of Geds sessions in Stockport and Im sure youll gain as much from it as we do.

Phil Benbow This is a great place to learn practical skills with skilled people who are open to sharing anything they know without making you pay for extra private lessons or belts which have become barriers to learning get in many clubs. In fact I would strongly urge you to be very wary of any club which claims to be traditional but has introduced belts. BELTS ARE NOT TRADITIONAL IN KUNG FU! Some clubs use belts as a means of parting you with your hard earned cash which will just delay your learning. With Ged, if you have a question in your training session it will be answered, there and then. No riddles, no suggesting you pay for a private lesson to get an answer. Wing Chun as a form of combat generates powerful focussed energy without force (the perfect skill to take in to your old age) It does because it was created with a higher understanding of internal body mechanics. Ged has dedicated much of his life to various forms of combat and sport fighting, and has studied the body as a machine to better understand and teach. You will not find a better application of Wing Chun with body mechanics. We always have a really good laugh together when we are training too! Whatever your skill level or experience you will leave having learned something practical. Phil Student for 3 years.
