What a total fup this station is. Just been out for a meal with friends and getting the last train back to Sheffield. Was on the platform a good 10mins before train due, just before due time it comes up on the screen as 1min late, a train comes thundering towards the platform, we get up to board but it's a freight train and our train has had a last minute platform change which if it was announced was not audible on the platform due to the noise of the freight train. Luckily for us my partner noticed a train on the opposite platform which was the one going to Sheffield, we rushed across and managed to get on, other people evidently were not so lucky as we could see them on approaching the platform as the train pulled away. I have had this happen to me numerous times at Stockport on my commute over the years, never experienced it at any other station.

It's a good and large train station with loads of trains to Manchester. Only problem is the distance from the town centre (up a hill too!) and the small number of ticket barriers.

There is a lot of change going at the present time. There is no central bus station anymore. However, signage does help someone find the right bus stop. I'm very critical with regard to public wheelchair accessible toilets. The single that did exist was at the bus station, which is now a commercial building being constructed at the present time. Granted, there are some businesses like McDonald's that do have wheelchair and disabled persons toilets. However, it's my experience that they are often closed. Sadly, due to austerity measures, some of the big names, such as C & A, Marks and Spencer, and some smaller businesses shut in recent times. What shops there are pretty decent with the likes of Primark and the reinvigorated shopping centre with the likes of Waterstones and others offering shopping opportunities there for we consumers. There are other attractions, such as the WW2 bomb shelters, and there are architectural attractions, e.g., old buildings, bridges, and so on. In particularthe magnificent railway arches which, honestly, impossible to miss! Sort out the public disabled persons toilet Stockport Council, please! That is why I rated Stockport 4 stars and not five.
