One has to take a heart's step back when first encountering the 355th Fighter Group Memorial just up from the village of Steeple Morden. You try to imagine the distinctive roar of the D-Model's Rolls Royce Merlin engines as you look at the incredible sacrifice of so many engraved in its face. Lt Col John H. Bonner, USAF-Ret; son of !Lt John Bonner, Jr; 358 FS

Situated in the middle of nowhere is a magnificent war memorial dedicated to the USAAF from WW11. Formally a bustling aerodrome, it now sits empty with a map of how it was originally. Well worth a visit.
