Josephine and Howard the hosts at the old farmhouse have put a lot of thought into the little cottage that is annexed to their own home. We stayed for a week with 2 adults and 2 younger children it was cosy and perfectly arranged for us. The shared driveway leads up to an immaculate garden area off of the main house which the children enjoyed playing in when we were at home. The little walled courtyard beyond is very cute and had a lovely outdoor seating area for use by us and a shared area to house bikes and shared washer dryer which we used a couple of times during our stay. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has all the basics you need like washing up liquid and toilet roll as well as lovely comfy beds and sofas. The dining table is small but was good for eating and board games. The childrens bedroom had 2 comfy single beds and nice heavy curtains. There was plenty of storage and the bathroom and ensuite are very clean and stylish. We had no concerns over cleanliness as the house was immaculate on arrival and they had done everything they could to help with hygiene while we were on site such as have hand soap throughout. We all enjoyed feeding the sheep and saying hello to the hens each day and were made to feel really at home by Josephine and Howard who shared local routes with us. There were so many routes to explore from the doorstep that we hardly made a dent throughout the week, but chatsworth house, the nine Ladies Stone Circle, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, The monsal trail were all visitable on foot or bike from the house which was fabulous. We also treated the children to a day at gullivers kingdom which was also only 15 miins away. There was also a Sainsbury's in Matlock, an aldi in Bakewell and a co-op a couple of miles down the road so shopping was easy. The pubs across in Rowsley were lovely and I can also recommend a visit to the old smithy in beeley as their menu and cakes were fabulous. We will be hoping to visit again and recommending to friends and family.
