I was appalled at the shocking level of customer experience shown at Stamford Vehicle Hire recently. If you Google 'Van Hire Oakham' and results give an Oakham Office address and Oakham phone number it is reasonable to assume that is where the collection would be. To be expected to 'second-guess' that the pick up, and drop-off, is in Stamford is baffling. However, that was not the issue. It was the rude, arrogant and intolerant behaviour shown by the owner that caused distress. The lack of courtesy, in dealing with this, showed a distinct lack of empathy and zero customer service . There was simply no effort to understand the situation from the customer's point of view, nor an ounce of respect. In contrast, the individual who showed us the vehicle showed us courtesy and acted with a level of professionalism one would expect. The vehicle was in good condition. Sadly Stamford Vehicle Hire have a near monopoly locally which has led to some complacency. I would suggest they need to think about how they treat their customers, respond to reasonable feedback and review their processes which, in this case, was far from adequate. UPDATE The response from the owner shows a clear lack of understanding of modern customer service. You google a number, you phone it and act accordingly. Why would one go to the website when you have spoken to the local office? However, the customer is always wrong in his eyes...

Pushed my octogenarian mother to make a penalty payment fine on my behalf without consulting me first, despite the fact I was the person who had rented the car, driven the car and wanted to contest the fine. Contacted the relevant authorities and they quickly came back to tell me that my appeal would have had a good chance of success, but now that it had been paid by the vehicle hire company, it would be nigh-on impossible to get the money back even if they supply the documentation. So Stamford Vehicle Hire unprofessional handling of the process has ended up costing me an extra 40. They also seem to live in a pre internet world before the internet where contacting someone overseas is not possible. A simple apology for handling the situation this way would have gone a long way.
