I have just visited lyndhurst with my mother, viewing for my grandfather of 87 and was very pleased with management and staff and cleanliness of the home. I think the staff are caring and compassionate.

I turned up at Lyndhurst Nursing Home unannounced at 11 O'clock on Saturday Morning. There is parking for four cars outside of the large Victorian house. Staff member welcomed me and took me to the owner/manager who warmly greeted me. Enquired about a place for my wife. Was shown a very large ground floor room at front of house with large wardrobs and lots of storage space for cloths and personal possessions. Very nice bed with floor pressure mats to alert staff if resident gets out of bed in the night. Residents lounge was large, clean and friendly enough for the 12 residents in the home at the time. Home throughout was clean and tidy. No smell of urine at all. All residents where well dressed in their normal day cloths. Kitchen has 5 stars for hygiene, and looked well run, food looked good. There are stairs and a lift to the upstairs bedrooms. Large well kept garden with seating and also a pet rabbit in its hutch. The local GP's surgery is about 100 yards away, and dentists surgery's not much further in Bexley village. A rearly nice small but friendly nursing home and reasonably priced. I returned on the following Monday for a second look. the manager was not on site at the time, but other staff were, who again showed me around. There are adequate nursing staff on site and cleaner and a cook. I had no hesitation and was very keen to accept a place for my wife. Unfortunately Bexley Council informed me that due to my wifes present and future condition it would only be possible to go to a modern type care home which they subscribe to. Which I was very sad about.

We booked a viewing for a close relative's potential place here and when we arrived the manager wasn't there and didn't even leave a brochure for us to take back to show our relative. A nurse showed us into a room without welcoming us and had no idea about funding. Rooms far to small for manoeuvring hoists. Meals were being dished up on lap tables in the lounge that stank of strong urine even the nurse opened the conservatory doors for fresh air. It was a very demoralising viewing and I would not put any of my relatives here to see out the rest of their days. 2 carers for 11 staff is disgraceful. If my relative needed care and two carers are busy assisting someone with toiletting then how long would my relative wait for pain relief or care? Please treat humans kinder here and get a good cleaner. Also there is no parking here.

My mother was cared for by the staff here in the last year of her life. I have nothing but praise for the care and attention they all showed in what is a very challenging job. The beautiful big garden, resident rabbit, birds and goldfish make a pleasant environment, and my family greatly enjoyed a summer party held last year which was fun for child visitors especially.
