A really interesting morning at the museum and quarry. We really enjoyed the train ride. The museum itself is very dated but will be wonderful when the new build is completed.

Without the train ride it wasn't amazing, just a lot of machines in an abandoned quarry. Maybe if you understand more, it would make more sense. However, the train ride was unbelievable. Not only was the ride itself amazing but the guide was very passionate about the history of the quarry, and it shows with his knowledge. We spoke for ages after, he had so many interesting stories and it really made our time amazing. Hopefully with time and money they are able to expand further.

Whilst this is well suited to those particularly interested in mining or machinery, it doesn't appear to have anything tailored to helping children, teenagers or novice adults appreciate the history, the mining, or explaining the content in an accessible way. The museum contains loads of information for its small size, but it is poorly presented and is not engaging for those without prior context or knowledge. The quarry is full of mining machinery, but there are no information boards to explain their purpose or story. We were advised by the staff to research ourselves before arriving. They no longer do guided tours to the mine since Covid, and were rather disappointed with the whole experience. It seems overpriced for those who don't already have a love for mining history. But, if you do, you'll appreciate what they have on offer.
