A very safe and smooth path from start to finish, brilliant for wheelchair and less able individual's, also the views of the nearby fells, the thing I was most amazed by you can see how much damage the river has caused when in flood.

Always loved this walk and now its even more accessible, no more up and down steep hillsides, its straight all the way from the Leisure Pool (now closed). Take the time to find and park behind the pool through, as there is a huge relatively unused car park laying empty that avoids the walk from Brundholme Road. Its the former railway line and theres plenty of evidence along the route from the now hotel extension at Keswick (which used to be the platform and station) to cuttings and raised platforms further into the route, and many interesting rail bridges. I never tire of going through the first railway tunnel as, for many, MANY years, this was filled in and this seemed to be pretty permanent. The fact it has opened is a thrill. We cycled the route this time and it was ICY under the tyres!! It was about -4 degrees. Plenty of concentration needed but rewarded with breathtaking images and the exhilarating feeling of cold on your face. Lots of work has been done to restore the route following catastrophic floods and land slides, that opened up a great chasm and washed away what used to be a boardwalk. In the ever changing impact nature has on the world, its great that we can adapt and maintain these human / nature areas.
