We went to London for a food tour so in the middle of the afternoon we were very excited to try the hot pot at Real Beijing. We were 4 of us and we ordered 2 hot pots and individual dishes. We didnt read the fine print before hand which was a huge mistake. As they brought out the food which was a lot of meat/veg. So we all started to eat and straight away the waitress came over and pointed out we couldnt try it as we only ordered 2 hotpots. A big misunderstanding as we didnt know this and said we didnt want anymore food to be brought up and will pay for what was on the table. As we had been eating all day we couldnt possibly eat that much more. The hot pots were huge. Very rude and condescending staff. My two sisters ate what they could of the hotpot and staff kept watching the table and we felt very uncomfortable! We asked what was going to happen to the remaining food which was already in the hot pot and lots more on the table and they said in the bin and if we wanted a takeout then its 10 a small container! Will never return!

Unfortunately had a bad experience here first time trying hot pot. We explained to the hostess we would order 2 hot pot as we didnt want much food and didnt want to be rude by ordering one hot pot for four people. We also ordered sides. We explained that we would not be refilling the hot pot ingredients as we just wanted enough food for 2 people so we could share. We did not want to abuse the all you can eat aspect of the hotpot. Never the less they proceeded to bring out huge portions of ingredients (for 2 people) which I dont know how 2 people would even be able to eat. So the 2 people who didnt order hot pot began to eat it too so the food wouldnt go to waste. We were immediately informed that if we all ate the hot pot we would all be charged 30 each for it despite the fact that the amount of food on the table was for 2 people. We told them that 2 people cannot eat this amount of food so we are trying not to waste it. They said the food would go into the bin if the 2 people who ordered the hot pot couldnt finish it off. If we wanted to get a takeout of the hot pot they charge 10 per tiny take away box FOR FOOD WE HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED?! They explained they charge per head not the amount of food. I really dont understand this at all. Exceptionally bad manners. It was ridiculous and no amount of explaining would get through to the staff. So 2 of us sat there not being allowed to eat and under the watchful eye of all the snickering staff who were circling our table or approaching us in groups. The fact that it was our first hot pot the staff could have been more accommodating. We had to ask for more than one menu when there was 4 of us. We had to go to the counter to ask how the ordering system works. And some items we ordered didnt come out until we asked. Would never visit again. There are many other hot pot restaurants we will try next time. Negatives: Big language barrier, rude and intimidating staff, outdated restaurant, frozen meat, spicy without any other taste in the hot pot soup Positive: lamb twig skewer
