My partner treated me to a meal out here for my birthday this evening, after spending most of my working life as a chef I've slowly learnt the difference between good tasty food and food that is excellent and stays in your memory. For starters we had halloumi fries and pork crackling, the portions were very generous, the halloumi was fantastic with the tomato salsa, the crackling was beautifully cooked but for me could've been a lot more salty, but that's purely personal preference. For main I had the special pork rump with and a malt glaze which was THE HIGHLIGHT, everything on the plate sang together.. the pork fats were rendered beautifully and even though not a mushroom lover, the pickled wild mushrooms really brought an exciting acidic punch to the dish. My other half enjoyed her chicken and pancetta pie just as much and our desserts were nothing short of luxurious. Pair this with friendly, smiley professional service and great local cider it really was a birthday dinner to remember. Thank you very much to all working tonight, you were exceptional
