I was employed as a residential child worker, training is great and very interesting full of motivation. How ever I didn't spend alot of time being able to work with the children as spent alot of time driving worked pretty much every day or one off then back in, staff pretty negative about management, I lost my job because I was disaplined for not wanting to drive as was on a "sleep" but was still out driving at 5am from 10am the day before because I was committed to supporting young people in need of support, was then asked to return to the home to do school runs and because I refused as I was too tired to drive and I thought it was not safe I was disaplined . Was asked to come in for a chat about it but this quick chat turned into a fact finding chat in which a manager had an attitude and had the nerve to ask if I was right for the job if I'm not willing to work in that way . They say they have the best interests of the children yet safety does not play a part in that . They also have a what's app where every moment your not in work they asking you to work , when managers do rotas needs changing as they don't have enough staff and no real work life balance , not much support when a child is in crisis managers just get in car and go home. One manager has a reputation for increasing anxiety in homes by just being there that's coming from many staff.. I was also told to alter facts on reports by a manager and dept manager and brought in for a chat and told to change a report so called in best of a interests of a child but then due to this no history of risks and I was also taught reports need to be factual and honest. Also when asked for a reference, reference was wrong and when asked to rectify this will not so prevent you from gaining a new job so because i did not Do as they wanted have been bullied and have been deliberate in actions to prevent me gaining further employment . The staff are all very committed but I saw three people leave and heard lots of people say they have had enough, but only in the one home in the others were great , calm and peaceful and very welcoming organised but was advised that the manager in the home was a source of anxiety and they advised this was because he is dealing with his own issues which makes sense as he was always digging asking me questions about home etc. 4i can't fault some of the staff and I'm guessing it's just pot luck which home you get if you get the right manager , training and pay great but senior manager and another manager and he are all in each others play book or I am in the wrong but I didn't see it that way that's for you to decide would you drive tired ?
