We were referred to Tapenade by our wedding venue and initially it was a pleasure speaking with them. They were always quick to respond and produced a quote which was reasonable and fair. We loved our tasting experience with them and the food was delicious. We paid our deposit and signed a contract.
Then about 7 months before our wedding we received a long email citing various reasons (brexit, supply issues, staffing shortages etc) in order to justify a 12% cost increase. This was a shock. Wed already signed a contract and something like this should have been discussed on the phone! I completely understand the times we are living in and that price increases must happen for NEW customers, not existing ones.
We had a lawyer look through our Tapenade contract and they agreed, there was no loophole they could give for increasing their costs like this.
However, the price was still reasonable compared to other companies so we were willing to negotiate and meet them at a 6% price increase. We didnt hear back from our email for ages because apparently the CEO was too busy to track down and get them to sign off.
I asked to speak to the CEO who was obviously the decision maker and again got brushed off and said he didnt have time to talk. It was at this point I realised they were not the caterer for us. Who could treat their clients like this when everyone is aware how stressful organising a wedding is.
They thankfully agreed to the return of our deposit (which was their only saving grace) and that was the end of it. Such a shame as I know they can serve up good food!
