Near the northwest tip of Cornwall, about 20 minutes south of Bude, is one of the most magical places I've visited: the town of Crackington Haven and the comfort of Cleave Farm Cottage. I spent a full month here from late January to late February with my wife and daughters and the only thing better than the views, the town and the cottage were our hosts Katy, Gary and their entire family who occupy Cleave Farm. The spacious stone cottage easily handled the four of us with its fully equipped kitchen, a wood fireplace (as well as central heating), great shower and bath, and some of the most comfortable beds I've slept in while traveling. A mere 3 minute walk from the door and you're overlooking the awesomely rugged Cornish coastline and only a 30 to 40 minute walk from there along into Crackington Haven with the fantastic Coombe Barton Inn and pub overlooking a beautiful beach. We made many trips on foot and played on the beach even in the cooler winter months. There are numerous other breathtaking walks to make as well, some cutting through the area's ancient forests. In the end, we left Cleave Farm with a bit of sadness for having to leave and a load of memories that will sustain us for years to come special thanks to Katy, Gary, Alan and the rest of the family for sharing so much of themselves with us.
