A beautiful gem of a boutique hotel. This hotel has a wonderful ambience, the staff are exceptionally welcoming yet maintain high standards of professionalism. The beds are comfy and the location is superb for a scenic break. I was impressed by the restaurant, exceptional garlic soup and breakfast. Obv. A brilliant chef. Fine dining but in a country pub atmosphere which is rare. Parts of the hotel are dog friendly. Not stuffy at all. Our room request was accommodated with no hassle. It's like staying in a beautiful home of a friend who happens to have an exceptional chef and wonderful staff living there! We will be back.

Firstly, this is a lovely pub/restaurant in a great location. We live 30 minutes away so weve eaten here many times. This was the first visit post refurb, and in all honesty it wont be a place I will eat at often. Although clean and well organised, with attentive staff I felt cheated by the fixed menu. I wasnt aware of this change before the visit. Example of what frustrated me:- The Hake dish in a Beurre Blanc sauce was exactly that. Nothing else in the dish apart from a few stands of samphire. Anything else you will need to make this a complete meal has to be ordered as additional sides. So, 38 for 2 courses, 45 for 3, is not the price you pay. The staff, instead of asking if youd like any sides should be stating that youll need them if you want a complete dish. This is all wrong. Just charge the price you need to charge and put that price on the menu. The food is good, I wont dispute that, but we eat at some fantastic local restaurants including the Rocket Store and the Rising Sun Inn where the food is equal to and better, and more reasonably priced. We recently ate at Porthminster beach cafe, the food was exceptional, great location and the bill wasnt as hefty as here. All in all, for location and food Id have given a 5, but the limited fixed price menu needs to be amended to reflect the price you pay. Additional costs for the sides which should accompany the dish make the price much higher than stated.. and theres something very frustrating about supplements next to a menu choice too! Again, just price the menu as it needs to be priced. Ending on a positive note, the Tempura battered Aubergine curry was delicious.
