Drove a long way to get there after reading all the positive reviews, we arrived bang on 3 o'clock only to be turned away by a very rude girl with glasses who said they don't let anyone in after 3. The place was half empty, We said we'd just have a drink but she still wouldn't let us in but we could buy a takeaway drink and sit outside, it was raining, thanks alot. The website says open until 4pm, if this is not the case it needs to be changed. I think the staff do what they want to make their job easy. Very poor, won't be back

I think that this is the BEST scones & clotted cream available in the whole world -- I say this after originally concluding that 7 years ago, travelling the world, and coming back. (I'm not from here, I'm Canadian.) They're still an amazing farm shop with an incredible array of local products and a wonderful-feeling room. HOWEVER, they also must have a management problem because the people who work for them are the most unwelcoming, unfriendly people I have encountered in a long time. Whenever you walk in, even when it's practically empty, some young girl will come chasing at you and then look at her reservation book and tell you there is no room. They turned away an extremely elderly couple my last time there, and I ran after the folks and gave them my table because there was tons of space for me at the bar beside. They tried to turn me away because a table was booked an hour hence -- and the last time, there was ONE table with people at them and the unsmiling young woman who ran over still tried to chase me away and I could clearly see on the book that there was one booking at 12.30 (this was about 9 a.m. I was there) and she was trying to tell me there was no room! I am taking the time to write this because this farm shop has been an icon in my mind for years since I farm volunteered in the neighbourhood and it makes me sad that people are getting together there and making sadness and stress instead of joy. I would recommend that if you are going to have a greeting system, the greeters should SMILE AND BE KIND AND WELCOME customers who enter, instead of frowning, not meeting their eyes, and being stressed over a silly reservation book, even on a Wednesday morning. Maybe what needs to happen is for the reservation system to be scrapped. Any basic human relations course would teach the manager about how to teach the greeters to be kind and welcoming... or, just look around at your neighbours. Most places in the area are smiling and welcoming, so what's going wrong at the farm shop? Even if there are problems with the management, that doesn't need to bleed out onto the customer experience. And it's particularly abhorrent when lovely retired folks and foreigners like me have made quite a trip from afar to attend and are then treated in such a "we don't want you here" way. I suggest the following text: "Welcome to Trevallick's (smile). Please give me a minute to see if we have a table. You're welcome to browse our shop in the meantime." Or some such. You can't even get a coffee to go at the moment, they shut you down with unfriendliness and insist that they're going to look in their book and then make you sit there waiting while they chat to other staff, etc., before they deign to take your order. Why not let customers order at the counter? The whole thing is treated with a poverty mindset. We must not let the kitchen get too many orders, or some such. Whatever the reason, clearly lots of stress and unhappiness. So... go if you want lovely food. But be prepared for a frozen unfriendly experience. I hope the owners read this and realize they can change it from stress to happy and easy with some minor tweaks. Maybe they haven't seen it from the customer's viewpoint. It says it's dad and 5 sisters so maybe it's family politics creating the nastiness, and maybe a stranger speaking up will help them improve. That's my hope.
