We temporarily registered our rescue boy for treatment who injured his paw whilst we were visiting family in St Albans.
The reception staff were wonderful very caring, responsive and helpful and managed to free up an appointment for us promptly.
The vet nurse we saw for our first appointment I felt interpersonally was not great - appeared a bit stand-offish, condescending, and perhaps a little arragont. After doing initial checks some of which did not seem to make sense for an injured paw (e.g. asking him to open his mouth -which he didn't really do), We were asked to wait outside as she felt our dog would be more receptive to treatment. Our bill seemed to include "advice given" on things not discussed or demonstrated e.g. dental, diet, parasite checks. When I later received the notes I see the nurse noted she asked us to leave the room as she felt our dog was protective of us and becomes stressed being examined whilst owners are present. Having worked with a highly experienced dog behaviourist since adopting our rescue I can confirm her assessments of our dog indicate no such behaviours. Similarly when we visit our regular vet we have had no such comments or observations, in fact our vets and vet nurses have specifically requested we are present in appointments to soothe our dog's anxiety to allow them to successfully examine him as when they have tried without us present he would not cooperate to treatment. I find it interesting that the nurse at vets4pets st Alban's felt she knew our dog's behaviour better having met him for all of 5 minutes. She also advised us that our follow up appointment in three days time would likely cost 80 - 100, this actually only ended up being 32 which seems vastly different to the number she quoted.
Our second visit felt much more positive. Our rescue boy saw a different vet nurse who seemed warm, welcoming, and caring. She shared her and the vets assessment clearly with us and there did not appear to be any unnecessary "advice or checks" occur with additional charges. We are still waiting for the notes from our second visit which are yet to be emailed to me.
Overall a mixed experience at vets4pets st albans dependent on who you see.
