The Millennium Green is a grassy field on the eastern riverbank facing onto Sproughton churchyard. It's very scenic & tranquil & a good place to observe passing Swans on this free flowing stretch of The Gipping. But the only choice of one bench or a tree stump in situ to sit upon, seems mean. A signboard & an ugly concrete disc that looks like a drain cover, serve to identify the area as Sproughton Millennium Green, but the money would have been better spent on proper benches. The Green is an extension of the riverside trail connecting Ipswich with Bramford, & provides the crossing point via the bridge leading towards Sproughton Mill. This is something of an acknowledged danger area, whether crossing under the bridge or by crossing the main road. Despite being on a tight, blind bend, there's no attempt to control the speeding traffic at this point, made all the more dangerous by the pavement ending abruptly & resuming on the opposite side of the road, right on the blind entry to the bend. Crossing beneath the bridge is certainly safer, but means having to bend double to avoid catching your head on the concrete supports. As far as I know, nobody has yet been run-over here, but it's just a matter of time before the tragedy happens. Sproughton Mill is on the opposite side of the road from the Green & is always a pleasure to view from the bridge.
