Southwell Fish and Chips

Really sorry, but I was just out of hospital and fancied fishnchips. I phoned up beforehand to check that they did small portions, which they did! Great. When my husband brought them home and put them on my plate, the first chip, and to be honest all the others, were absolutely awful, greasy, floppy, nasty taste! The batter of the fish was again thick, sloppy, greasy and tasteless but the fish was okay!! Im so disappointed as Im sure this place would not have been trading for so long if their produce was usually as bad as this. I left 3/4 of the chips, most of the batter and 1/2 of the fish!! Were we unlucky? I was gutted though!!!

alright food, fish was tasty, with crispy batter, looked big but was 50% battered, and actual fish was thin, battered sausage was pale and undercooked, and it was very soggy like a greecy sponge. Staff were taciturn, and emitted a melancholy vibe, and the chips were average, good sized portion, but some were chewy and hard.

The fish & chips from here are amazing. A beautiful light crisp batter topped with salt & vinegar that you can actually tatse makes the trip here worth every mile. Service is friendly and we never seem to be waiting or waiting long for a fish to be cooked. Top quality I'd highly recommend. Parking: There are parking bays outside. When we've gone in the evenings we've usually always managed to park. There is a time limit on how long you can stay, I'm sure it's 1 hour between certain hours of the day.

Excellent fish, fresh cooked chips. Friendly serving staff. Once you get over the see through baffles in the queueing area, it gets a lot better. Good products, good value price.
