I qualified in EAL many years ago and in recent years had thought about working in Education Support but I lacked any formal SEN qualifications. A friend who works as SENCO at a school recommended Dyslexia Matters. From my first phone call I knew that this company was special. The advice to start with the bite-size courses to see if it was for me was spot on. I enjoyed them and learnt a lot about understanding dyslexia and spelling difficulties. The available resources and examples were useful and the pace of the online courses was manageable around work and family life. My desire to pursue a role in Ed Support grew and I applied for a job at a school in my local area...and got it! In the space of 3 months I have taken a leap that took me about 7 years to build up to! The phone calls with Julia along the way have been of tremendous value and I owe her a big chunk of my success!

Dyslexia Matters really do stand up to their name 100% as a course provider. I have just completed my level 5 diploma to become a specialist teacher and would definitely recommend this course to anyone looking to specialize in the teaching profession. As a learner with dyslexia I I always felt understood, supported, listen to and that my learning experience mattered. Julia and Liz (the company leaders) are simply amazing at what they do and they remain at the forefront of the course so that you always feel like they are there to support you. They are then surrounded by a brilliant set of tutors and assessors who just like them provide a consent caring and nurturing environment so that throughout my course I was never made to feel alone in my journey. The course itself was clearly structured and easy to follow with interactive elements to support along the way. I undertook the blended course and would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes to have a community of others around them who they can share their challenges and successes with. To sum up my review I am so pleased with the training provider I am already counting the days down until I can start my level 7 with them.

This course has taught me so much about dyslexia and other barriers to learning. As a mature student, I started off grappling with all the technology and the concept of returning to a high level of learning and its demands. However, my tutors and the course leaders were patient and helped me to tackle the steep learning curve and get up to speed with the academic demands of the course so that I could respond to the excellent feedback I received. I was on the blended learning course so we had face to face as well as online communication and one highlight was connecting with the other students who were as immersed as I was in the whole experience. On the two teaching blocks we undertook, my tutor, Catherine, intuitively knew how far to push me to maximise my knowledge and skills and I can honestly say that I can now communicate with parents as a specialist and address areas in the dyslexic learner's journey that were unfathomable before. The course was demanding but so worthwhile.
