The Green Man

Haven't been for years and realised why. When we turned up it was clear that the things weren't running smoothly and the vibe I got was that the staff were struggling to cope. It wasn't busy by any means but who knows what had gone on. We were seated, we ordered in a reasonable time frame but after 20 minutes of waiting for our drinks we had to approach the bar to get them (two soda waters!). Then after another 10-15 minutes we were told our order hadn't gone through on the machine so the starter was just being made (something I'd easily forgive). The starter came, was eaten and then about 55 minutes after we had sat down, the couple opposite us who sat about 20 minutes ago were served two steaks (what we had ordered) and we were still without our meal. It turns out the other server had given our food away! An hour had passed and we had to basically get our own drinks and watch someone else eat our food in that time. Safe to say that was three strikes and we left agreeing that the soda waters and one starter would indeed be on the house. I know things can go wrong and we're all human but the whole operation that night was clearly flawed and no one was in control of the pub as a whole.

Absolutely fantastic evening meal , friendly staff and chilled atmosphere, rooms are clean and tidy and reasonably well equipped , maybe a little on the warm side but not unbearable, if I was the owner I'd consider gluing and screwing plywood on the room floors as they are very creaky along with the bed , I guess alot of the noise depends on the other guests tho But for price and convenience it exceeded expectations ... GIVE THE CHEF A HUG

I was lucky enough to spend a weekend at the Green Man in Stanford while celebrating the marriage of my son and his ethnic male partner, we enjoyed meeting the owner "Trev" who said he would have a lock in with us and show us his maze of tunnels that he had built under the local villages of Shefford and Stanford... this was like some from Area 57!
