UPDATE. Sadly there's a rude new pharmacist here. I have fibromyalgia and have been having my prescriptions delivered, with no issues, from Longthornes West Road for about 20 years. Paul the pharmacist who I usually deal with is always exceptionally kind and helpful, and this review is in no way referring to him. Before Christmas I phoned them, and the lady I spoke to offered (off her own back) to arrange for my daughters prescriptions to also be delivered, to save me having to go and pick them up. This never materialised, so last week we popped in to collect her prescription, and I innocently mentioned that her prescriptions were supposed to be delivered now along with mine. To my surprise, immediately an exceptionally pompous and rude man who was behind the counter approached me asking if I am "housebound "... I answered "not all the time". He very belligerenty said that I wasn't entitled to have my prescriptions delivered, so I explained that I'd had this service for about 20 years without issue. He replied "that's as maybe ", but that delivery was out of the goodness of his heart, and the costs were coming out of his pocket, and on and on and on...... I'm not complaining about paying for the service. I'll happily do that if it's costing the pharmacist out of pocket, however, there are ways of explaining that to a customer. This man was pompous, condescending, belligerent and aggressive. My daughter was very shocked by how he spoke to me and, as someone who can't deal with confrontation, I just subsided.... very embarrassed at how he was speaking to me in full view of all the other customers. The lady behind the counter tried to be pleasant and upbeat, and I think she was embarrassed by him. I said that I had no problem paying for the service, but that in all these years, I had never been told that it was a problem, or that there are caveats. He continued to bluster aggressively and didn't comment on whether I could start to pay for my deliveries. Eventually I said that if this was now the policy I would change pharmacist and find one who's happy to deliver. However the truth is that I don't want to have to deal with this very unpleasant person. I have now changed my pharmacist to one who is happy to deliver....I explained my situation and offered to pay them for delivery, but was told there's no need. I am sad to leave Longthornes at West Road because up until now, the service has always been excellent and very friendly, and I have recommended them to friends. I have phoned for advice and have received excellent help, Paul has even sent me medication and trusted me to pay for it later, for which I am very grateful. However I can't continue to use them with this new man in charge. If this new man speaks to other customers the way he spoke to me, they may well find that other loyal customers will leave them too. Paul the pharmacist is so kind and everyone is very helpful, I wouldn't go anywhere else! 4 years later and just an edit to say that they are still the best local pharmacy! Paul has given me great advice over the phone and sent me medication to help without my having to leave the house, what fantastic service! Their drivers are also friendly and helpful and so are the lovely people who answer the phone definitely a 5 star business
