my mother 93 year was sent to this place against my wishes by NHS d2a following a stroke which left her unable to talk and careful feeding was necessary.I managed to get her home two days before she passed away. When she arrived home NHS carers were there to meet her and care for her during her last days. They discovered bedsores all over, she had lost so much weight and was totally dehydrated. ( Note I gave no warning to Fernbrook that I had arranged for an ambulance to collect her until last minute as I didn't want them to try and stop me.)I would never send anyone to this place or allow the hospital to send anyone. They promised to look after my mum, but on so many levels they neglected her. They restricted my visits to one 30 minute visit over week even though as her main carer I said she was losing weight. and dehydrated they refused to allow me to stay and feed her in her room.Had it not been for Covid restrictions they would never have got away with their actions because I would have stayed with mum throughout and they could not have stopped me and I would have taken her home within the week because I would have seen what was going on. However she was there 2 months and there seemed there was nothing I could do.I had Health and welfare power of attorney and yet even that was not enough.The. whole reason my mum was sent there by Southend Hospital was because she kept trying to get out of bed and needed 24 hour supervision. By the end she had no will power and had just turned into a vegetable. When she finally arrived back home I could tell she was relieved and she even looked out onto her garden. I think she knew that she was safe and she passed away 2 days later with her family surrounding her. I will never forgive the home for what happened.

Never judge a book by the cover! The beauty is inside. We are so blessed to have met with Lillian and the team at Fernbrook. Our very poorly Aunt, recently passed away in the home with complete dignity and knowing she was with friends and "extended family." Arriving from care at home where she was found by paramedics unlikely to make it to hospital. A 4 week stay in SUH stabilised her condition but it was Fernbrook who brought her back to life! She discovered "proper" food again; enjoyed the company of others; had her nails painted and was once more the beautiful and glamorous lady of her youth. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, for residents or their guests. We miss our visits. You're each and everyone very special. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for 10 more months with her.

Fernbrook Care home is a wonderful place. My aunt was dying when she arrived three years ago and refused to eat. The staff worked miracles to not only bring her back to life but get her to eat and enjoy her food. Despite having gradually lost the ability to recognize people, her face lights up when she sees members of staff. They have saved her life on many occasions and have given her quality of life, welcoming family and friends - becoming a home from home. My aunt has found renewed joy of music and singing. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. X
