Always a lovely time with our three year old grandson he loves the word all the things he can do, staff always friendly and cafe great as it serves gluten free cakes

Fabulous place to visit. Lovely little cafe, perfect for a small lunch or cake and coffee. Wonderful shop selling all things North East. And of course an amazing library with exhibitions, there's plenty of things to see and do here.

Contrary to quite a few l find the Word a calm and pleasant space to read or view the river or enjoy a quiet moment over a cup of coffee.

We love the word as they put in so much effort with things but a few little things would make it amazing. I understand it's council run but they miss so much. Firstly the toilets are awful as most don't flush and this puts ppl off. Secondly all of the teas they serve contain plastic which is so awful for the environment & for health. We would stay longer if we could have a cuppa Finally, the veggie, vegan & gluten free options are disgustingly awful. The staff are badly trained on these areas which is unacceptable in 2023. Time if a little change to make things so much better. Keep up the good work
