Lovely little church that occasionally has events. Great place to park and go for some decent dog walks in the countryside.

A Beautiful Church, first mentioned in the late 12th Century, when St Leonard's- Atte- Bow, the nunneries nuns would stay here, the North Door dates from 1150, open every day, an excellent location for dog walkers, ramblers, cyclists, and for folk who just want to have a look, or for private prayer, you can park outside or if busy, or park at Ingatestone Hall, and walk across the fields.

This is a simple stunning Grade II listed 14th century church and is so peaceful. Im not religious but it is my favourite church in the area for its feeling of serenity as soon as you walk inside. It is simple and elegant. The cushions on each seat are amazing and clearly handmade. We came across the church on a long walk in the area. It occupies a fairly isolated position on a hill. On one of the walls is a painting from the medial period of the Last Judgement. This painting was discovered by workmen when working in the roof, and may have been hidden in the roof at the time of the English reformation. Set in the floor of the Nave & the North Aisle are two memorial slabs from the 17th century. On the West wall of the Nave there is WW1 Memorial that lists the men from Buttsbury who were enlisted to serve in WW1, and the centre panel shows who had died and did not return. There is a book underneath where someone is clearly trying to collect more details on each family. There is also a lovely corner where you can select a piece of wool, say a prayer for a loved one and put your piece of wool on the board (see photos).
