July 2018 We are very pleased with our new roof, and towards the end of the project the roofers felt like extended family. Having struggled with numerous leaks and repairs for years, we decided to ask three companies to quote for a new slate roof, and specified which slates, and which breathable membrane we wanted them to use. The quote from McDonald Roofing was marginally above the lowest quote, but we chose them because of their reputation, and because they did not store materials on site, but brought what was used each day. John and Val and Izabela were very helpful and adapted procedures to fit in with our requirements. The roofers, the two Garys, Brad and Brian, helped by Charlie and Allan, worked on the black slated roof with temperatures above 30 degrees and the sun beating down on them during the heatwave in July. Yet they always remained friendly and cheerful, and appreciated a lemon squash during their breaks. Any issues that arose during the build, they brought to our attention, and with their extensive experience, suggested the appropriate solutions. We had some repointing done, new guttering and they had to replace fascia boards. They also did a very neat job on replacing rotten timber on our front gable. The roof looks very good , and we would not hesitate to recommend McDonald Roofing. Thanks to everyone at McDonald Roofing! October 2022 It is now 4 years since McDonald Roofing replaced our roof during the very hot summer. We are in the process of selling our house, and the prospective buyers sent a building surveyor. The surveyor was very complimentary about the workmanship, and commented that the roof still looks like new. The guttering I specified has shrunk since it was put up in 40 degree heat. McDonald Roofing has made the necessary adjustments when a problem arose, under their 10 year guarantee, and responded promptly when I contacted them. As always, their staff are helpful and professional, such as Kerry in the office, and Gary and Terry making the adjustments. We appreciate their help and are happy to recommend them. McDonald Roofing Contractors were recommended to us by a good friend and neighbour, for having managed to keep their original Edwardian roof going with attention whenever needed, over the past 30 years. Our roof had reached the end of its life and had to be entirely replaced (clay tiles, lead, pitched as well as flat, incorporating dormers, Velux and skylight windows, proper insulation to meet recent regulations, new guttering throughout). We couldnt have had better luck in finding this wonderful gem of a roofing company. From the very first contact with the lovely Kerry in the office to the final invoicing from the very efficient Izabela; from the initial visit from John McDonald, who was knowledgeable, professional, full of good advice about our Conservation Area/Building Control requirements and gave us confidence, we knew we were going to be in safe hands. I must have annoyed them many times with my endless questions before finally committing; John was tirelessly patient and explained everything in as much detail as I needed. Not only that, the quotation (which was stuck to rigidly, extras only added at our request) and the detail of the work it outlined was clear and very well priced. (In our area, most estimates are as loaded as the residents are thought to be!) Our scaffolding experience, organised by McDonalds, was very far from any we have had in the past. Efficient, careful, considerate and using clean new(ish) materials, the team put up and took down the scaffold with minimal fuss and mess. The roofing team were brilliant. They were polite, reliable, endlessly cheerful and fun to have around. Thank you Gary (project manager); Gary (Gazza); Brian (an old hand he probably wouldnt mind me saying so! and the 30-years-long veteran of our friends roof); next-generation, admirably dedicated Terry, Ollie; (hope I havent forgotten anyone): you were absolute stars. Turning up for work on the hottest days ever recorded in the UK was way beyond the call of duty! If this review seems too good to be true, well, it isnt; its just that its rare to find contractors who are such a pleasure to deal with. I will happily give a verbal reference to anyone who is considering using McDonald Roofing for their roofing project. Kerry has my contact details. What can I say after experiencing two roofing previous roofing companies who made my roof worse by damaging tiles and charging me an absolute fortune it was an breathe of fresh air to do business with a company who actually cares and wants to do a good job. I cannot praise this company enough and would strongly recommend you use this company over anyone else true professional roofers who are an absolute pleasure to do business with and do an amazing job. Discovering that the cowboy builder who renovated my house two years ago had left me with a poor excuse for a roof was a devastating and costly experience. But the sweetener was the fact that I selected McDonald to make it right. John was very sympathetic to the position I had been left in and his careful explanations of what was now needed were much appreciated. We even managed to laugh over some of the shocking things that the previous builders had done! Brian and Charlie were a fab duo to have up on the roof for several weeks and Kerry in the office was really helpful too. They provided me with loads of photos to use as evidence of the terrible original work, as well as a report, should I need it. McDonald came to my rescue and I know now that this roof will last
