Having had the displeasure of dealing with Dr Michael Cheung and staff today, I strongly urge anyone considering Maple Orthodontics, particularly for a child, to reconsider. I had appointments for my three daughters today, at 3pm. However, when I arrived for the appointment at 2.40pm, I was told I had made an error and should have been there at 2pm. I take full responsibility for my mistake and apologised profusely. The clinic receptionist offered to see if it would be possible to still see one or more of the girls. She returned with who I assume was a dental nurse/technician who said she would do her best to complete an assessment of one or more. At this point, I was impressed and grateful that our trip wouldn't have been wasted. We were taken through and the appointments began. We were then joined by a male who did not introduce himself, instead choosing to greet us with "You are very late." (I now know this member of staff is Dr Michael Cheung.) Again, I apologised for my mistake and again, I thanked them for seeing us. He did not respond to this but began examining my daughter. Part way through this examination, my youngest daughter (12 years old), told me that while she was waiting in reception, a dental nurse and receptionist had been talking loudly about us, complaining regarding us being late and also referred to my eldest daughter, who is autistic, as "stroppy and rude", among other things. (My daughter had been neither of these, she was quiet, as she is in all public situations, but had been polite and compliant with all requests.) I was taken aback by their unprofessional behaviour. Once the examination had been completed, Dr Cheung told me the children would go on their waiting list and we would be called in approximately 2 years "if you don't want to pay." There had been no explanation of the findings of the examination or what treatment was proposed. At this point, I enquired as to whether they actually require full braces. Dr Cheungs reply was "Nobody needs braces, everybody wants braces." I then asked if in his professional opinion, my children require braces. Again, Dr Cheung, repeated "Nobody needs braces, everybody wants them." His tone was combative, rude and unprofessional. At this point, I was no longer willing to tolerate the disrespectful and discourteous behaviour displayed by the arrogant Dr Cheung and some other staff members. I informed Dr Cheung how rude and unprofessional I found him and also the staff members who had found it appropriate to discuss my daughter mere inches away from my other daughter and other patients. I ended the appointment and left. I will seek orthodontic treatment elsewhere from someone who is capable of treating my children in a compassionate and professional manner.

Having visited Michael to review my daughter for treatment I was appalled at his etiquette and dialogue between client and healthcare professional. He neither explains, nor introduces himself, nor gains consent but rather displays an air of arrogance when reviewing patients. I found him completely unprofessional and have requested to not be seen by himself at future appointments. He almost made my daughter cry due to his rude and abrupt manner.

Accommodating for appointments and efficient staff, was seen nice and quickly, however the child appointment was not very reassuring or explanatory.
