Utterly ridiculous that the toilets cost 40p to use to begin with, but even worse when the gates don't even work! I visited Skegness for the first time at the weekend and was shocked to find I'd need to spend 40p every time I needed to use the toilet. It was a hot weekend so I wanted to keep hydrated, but I was also reluctant to do so, so I didn't spend a small fortune on needing to use the toilets. We were eating at a fish and chip (eat in) place down the road, which as it provided seating, is legally supposed to provide toilets, but didn't. Section 20 of the 1976 Local Government Miscellaneous Provisions Act states that toilets should be provided if food and drink is being sold for consumption on the premises, however it's up to the local council to enforce it. I'm assuming Lincolnshire County Council and Skegness Town Council turns a blind eye to the fact that resturants are failing to provide facilities, as it allows the council to charge ridiculous prices for the convinience. I visited the toilets with two children and used my card to pay to get in (the same card I'd been using all day to access toilets), however the screen just said "authorising" for about 30 seconds, then nothing. I tried again and the same happened. I had alerts from the banking app on my phone to tell me I'd been charged twice, but neither times the gate opened. The children were crying as they were desperate for the toilet, so I had to force the gate open, which set off an alarm, scaring the children. What else could I do in that situation!? Very frustrated with the whole ordeal, it's tainted my view on what would've been a nice day out. Considering Skegness thrives on tourism, Skegness Town Council are not making the town very welcoming!

To be frank I have no idea why skegness gets such a raw deal. Its well maintained with a good mix of attraction and a beach to die for. There are abandoned falling down properties something for everyone. My only gripe is lack of benches, only a few in town need more. I know what talking about as I live between Southport and Blackpool and skegness certainly has some advantages over both these locations.
