1968 when I was 7 years old, the Salvation Army Band would play their music and march down Shortlands Road past our Shop at 118, towards the church. My sisters and I would follow behind with the excitement of many other children from the neighbourhood and, we would attend Sunday School at the Shortlands Road Church. The Army ladies were very nice to us and gave us postage like stamps with biblical scenes on them that, we would collect and swap. Our family left left for Australia in 1970. The Salvation Army experience is still a found memory of my childhood and home town.
